We provide all services related to the maintenance of fire extinguishers including recharging, repairs and hydrostatic testing.

Recharging is required when:

• A fire extinguisher has been used.
• The gauge needle on a fire extinguisher indicates recharging is needed.
• The fire extinguisher uses a Halotron or Dry Chemical agent, and 6 years has passed since its last recharge.
• The fire extinguisher uses Carbon Dioxide (CO₂) or a wet chemical agent, and 5 years has passed since its last recharge.

Repairs may include fixing or replacing defective components including boots, gauges, hoses, levers, nozzels, saftey pins, syphon tubes and valves.

Hydrostatic Testing (aka Hydrotest) is used to check the strength and integrity of the cylinder. In accordance with the National Fire Protection Assocation (NFPA) 10 standards, a hydrostatic test is required on all fire extinguishers once every 12 years.

Hydrostatic Testing (aka Hydrotesting) is used to check the strength and integrity of cylinders. We perform hydrotesting on fire extinguisher, SCBA and SCUBA cylinders.

Fire Extinguisher Cylinders require Hydrostatic Testing once every 12 years in accordance with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 10 standard.

SCBA Cylinders require Hydrostatic Testing annually in accordance with the NFPA . Hydrostatic testing is one of many tests conducted during the required annual Flow Test.

SCUBA Cylinders require Hydrostatic Testing once every 5 years as per CSA Standard Z275.2-11, and the Occupational Safety Code for Diving Operations O. Reg. 629/94, s. 15 (5); O. Reg. 32/14, s. 14.

We complete onsite inspections of to determine your fire saftey needs and ensure compliance with provincial and federal regulations including fire and building codes. Our inspections are thourough. We provides you with a detailed audit report listing all fire extinguishers and hose systems on the premises, their current status, areas of deficiency and recommendations.

The Alberta Fire Code (AFC 2006, Division B, Article 6.2.1.1) reguires fire extinguishers to be inspected annually by a certified fire extinguisher servicing company.

We rent fire extinguishers and SCBA equipment.

Typically events like Barbeques, Community Block Parties, Concerts, Fairs, Festivals, Firewworks, Parades, Rodeos and Trade Shows require fire extinguishers on a temporary basis. If you are organizing an event or just need a fire extinguisher for a limited period of time we have a large selection of fire extinguishers in various sizes available for rent. Longer-term lease arrangements are also possible if needed.

Certain work conditions which involve contaminated or harmful breathing air such as performing tasks near sour gas or cleaning fuel vessls may require the use of a breathing apparatus for saftey. We rent a range of brand name Scott and MCA SCBA apparatuses and cylinders for this type of application.

As SCBAs are often used in an immediately dangerous to life or health (IDLH) environment an annual flow test is required to ensure users are protected. Firewatch Inc. conducts SCBA Flow Tests which includes:

• checking the face piece for leaks
• checking the exhalation valve pressure
• checking the static face piece pressure
• checking the bypass flow rate
• checking the pressure gauge accuracy
• checking the low pressure alarm activation
• checking the first stage regulator performance
• checking the breathing resistance at snandard (40 LPM) work rate.
• checking the breathing resistance at maximum (100 LPM) work rate
• checking the cylinder integrity with a hydrostatic test

Upon the successful completion of the SCBA Flow Test Firewatch Inc. certifies the Respirator Flow for a period of 1 year. In accordance with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) , respirator flow testing is required annually..

A Respirator Mask Fit Test is used to ensure that a respirator is properly fitted to an individuals face/head for maximum protection. We coonduct Quantitative PortaCount Respirator Fit Tests which measures real-time fit while the user simultanously performs a series of movements, breathing and talking exercises designed to simulate the same activity performed on the job.

Upon the successful completion of the Respirator Fit Test Firewatch Inc. certifies the Respirator and Mask for a period of 2 years. In accordance with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) , respirator mask fit testing is required at a minimum of once every 2 years.

We offer onsite fire extinguisher training that combines theory and hand experience to ensure your staff are ready in the event of a fire.

The classroom/theory component is approximately 40 minutes and covers the following topics:

• Introduction to Portable Fire Extinguishers
• How to identify the classes of fire (A,B,C,D and K)
• Explanation of extinguisher servieability, location and the importance of training.
• Understanding of fire tetrahedron (ie. modes of extinguishment)
• Special application for your premises
• Open discusssion - question and answer period.

The practical hands on component includes:

• Extinguishment of class B flammable fluids in a 3' x 4 ' burn tray.
• Reinforcement of personal safety and fire scene (access, egress and emergency procedures)
• Each participant must use an extinguisher to demonstrate correct fire fighting techniques.

Please note - all participants are required to wear protective glasses and gloves to complete the hands on training.
